According to this article, some scientists have discovered a new mineral that absorbs radiation from liquid nuclear waste.

Hopefully this turns out to be something real I hear they’ve just been burying nuclear waste in the ground.. can’t be good.

Here’s an interesting article about a team of people who actually went out to see the Pacific Garbage Patch for themselves.  They’re posting up a 12 part video series covering this voyage.  I’m just starting to watch them myself.  At the moment, they only have 4 of 12 video’s posted up.  I’ll update this entry with links once parts 5-12 hit the internet

For anybody who has been concerned about the issue of clean water… this device should help you breath a sigh of relief. A few months back, I had this horrible panic attack that the world was running out of water and that we were going to screwed in about 20 years. I was seeing all this media footage of worldwide drought with lakes at record low levels and it freaked me out. Anybody hear about the water shortage in Atlanta due to their Sweetwater lake running just about completely dry? That definately played a part in that.

Anyways, this video has been up for a while. I think I originally saw it off gizmodo or engadget, I forget which. What wasn’t really discussed was how this thing worked.

I decided to give the U.S. patent office’s database a search. I turned up Patent # 7,340,879 for a Locally Powered Water Distillation System. There is also a provisional patent application # 10/713,617 which describes “Pressure Vapor Cycle Liquid Distillation“.

I don’t know what it is with me. I see all this messed up crap going on in the world and I find it ALL really upsetting. I can’t fathom how people can take certain positions on issues. Even people within my family, I’m sad to say. It really bothers me that we’re even discussing what brand of torture is acceptable. It really bothers me that the only politicians who get attention are the ones willing to sell their soul to the lobbyists and corporations backing them. It really bothers me that there are people that just don’t give a fuck about the planet. It bothers me that you have these one issue voters who somehow believe that these lying ass politicians really give a damn about their one issue. It REALLY bothers me that I have no way to verify whether or not my vote was counted properly. I have some friends that say things like, “There’s nothing we can do, so why even bother? The system is completely fucked, deal with it”. Sometimes I wish I could just “deal with it”. Instead, I spend all this time worrying about the future of our country and the planet as a whole. I spend time worrying about all of the waste we produce and wonder where it all ends up and what we’re going to do about it. I worry about the future of our country when people I know are just fucking retarded when it comes to politics or whats going on in the world.
